'A Few Good Men' Announced as NBC's Next Live Production, Expected in 2017

The year isn't halfway yet but there's already a lot to look forward to in 2017. One of it will be a live presentation of Emmy and Oscar-winner Aaron Sorkin's drama "A Few Good Men." As stated in the report by Deadline, Sorkin, who is known for his work "The West Wing" in NBC and screenplay for "The Social Network", will adapt and produce this time the work that premiered in Broadway in 1989.

The play captured the hearts of many as it told the story based on real events of an inexperience Navy lawyer named Lt. Daniel Kaffee. Set in the year 1986, Kaffee was tasked to defend three Marines on trial for the murder of a comrade. Three years after it premiered as a play, it was adapted for the big screen starring Tom Cruise, Demi Moore and Jack Nicholson. The Verge detailed that it earned four Oscar nominations including Best Picture.

And though the film was more popular, Vanity Fair noted that the stage version earned a Tony nomination for star Tom Hulce. It also features several future stars including Ron Perlman, Clark Gregg, Stephen Lang and more.

After more than a decade, the piece will get an NBC production based on the theatrical version and it will air in 2017. Sorkin is in charge of the teleplay and will executive produce together with Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, who have jointly produced NBC's line of recent live musicals.

"I've been incredibly impressed watching NBC resurrect live musical theater for television and I'm eager to team up with Craig [Zadan] and Neil [Meron] to help bring live drama back as well," stated Sorkin.

As of now, it's not revealed yet who will be part of the cast of the live production and when exactly it will air. But it's expected to come around early next year so those who are looking forward to catching the premiere should watch for more updates from NBC soon.
