The fourth episode of the hit FX series "Atlanta" continues to develop the threads of the story by introducing a new character and emphasizing the respective struggles of Earn (Donald Glover) and Alfred/Paper Boi (Brian Tyree Henry). The teaser of the upcoming episode titled "Nobody Beats the Biebs" hints that the duo will meet some celebrities in their quest to fame.
Episode 4 Recap: 'The Streisand Effect'
The fourth episode of "Atlanta" opened with Alfred hanging out with Earn in a parking lot after a late night club performance. After a few moments, a new racially ambiguous character named Zan (Freddie Kuguru) made his entrance.
Also known as #Zansexual, the character is a viral vlogger who appears to be a villainous troll master. He owns a real life Instagram account and makes Vine videos together with Bankroll PJ, a real-life child social media star.
Zan made his entrance highly annoying by dropping the n-word. He recognized Paper Boi and tried to gain likes from his followers by taking photos of the budding rapper and posting them online.
Later in the episode, Paper Boi found himself caught in social media trouble after Zan started posting savage memes that trash his music. Zan also posted a lengthy vlog grading the rapper's music and making fun of his stage name and his sideline as a drug dealer.
On the other hand, the episode also highlighted the blossoming brotherhood of Earn and Darius (Keith Stanfield). The two characters spent majority of the episode together, figuring out how to make more money from Earn's phone. Earn tried to sell his phone for cash, but Darius advised him to trade it with a kitana to get more money.
Disappointed by the offshoot of their plans, Earn ended up sharing his money problems to Darius. The show left with Darius offering his iPhone for Earn to trade in. "We're friends now," Darius stated.
