Marshmallow Update for Sony Smartwatch 3 Now Rolling Out

The moment that many Sony Smartwatch 3 owners have been waiting for has finally arrived. According to a report by Tech Times, the most awaited Android Marshmallow update has rolled out already for the smartwatch. Users can expect to get their update soon as Senior Developer Advocate at Google Wayne Piekarski announced on his Google+ account that the over-the-air update will reach everyone "within a week or so."

Android Headlines noted that the smartwatch will notify the user if the update is already available for download. Users can opt to check manually though by heading over to the settings. Prior to the rollout of the update, many were concerned that Sony and Google have pushed back the device to be left behind. Android Police detailed that the Sony Smartwatch 3 is the last model to receive the Marshmallow update that is why several were worried after about two months of anticipating for it.

There is no solid information for why the device took so long to get the update but it's speculated to be related to its different hardware. The source mentioned that the Sony watch is equipped with a Broadcom ARM chip. At this point, Google revealed that all of the Android Wear devices have now received the latest Marshmallow update. Users can also expect more in the future as Piekarski also revealed that there will be another announcement released once the operating system arrives to all the Android Wear devices.

"When all Android Wear devices have the update, I will make another announcement so that developers know when they can remove API 22 support from their apps. We are almost there with the API 23 rollout," he says.

For those who are interested to pick up the Sony Smartwatch 3, Sony Mobile says the device's specs include a 1.8 Transflective display with 320 x 320 resolution. It has Wi-Fi, NFC, Bluetooth and up to 2-day battery life. It's also waterproof with IP68 and comes in various colors and designs including stainless steel chain-link and leather.
